There is no more important science fiction film, or, perhaps, film of all time, than Fritz Lang’s Metropolis from 1927. This silent German-expressionist film set the stage for all science fiction films to come. The movie is set in a dystopian future, based on the novel Metropolis from 1925 by Thea Von Harbou. Harbou collaborated on the screenplay with her husband, Fritz Lang. Metropolis creates all modern sci-fi tropes, including hyper-modernized cityscapes, oppressive dystopian regimes, androids, and so much more! The biggest criticism of the film was its long runtime of 153 minutes. Most Americans have only seen a much more cut-down version, and the long cut was thought to be lost until a copy was found in Argentina in 2008, and the much more risque full version was restored. So, if you’re a psycho for sci-fi cinema, then Metropolis from 1927 is absolute must-watch! #moviereview #fritzlang #metropolis #scifi #sciencefictionfilm #classicfilm #filmcritic #filmcriticism #cinephile
