When you consume a lot of sugar, or you’re a diabetic, you could get a severe vitamin B1 deficiency. When you get vitamin B1, make sure it’s fat-soluble vitamin B1 (benfotiamine).  Vitamin B1 is involved in keeping the lining of the blood vessels strong. Without vitamin B1, you could have a problem with your blood vessels. The blood vessels support the nervous system. If you don’t get blood supply to the nerve, it decreases the oxygen to the nervous system causing a range of problems.  A vitamin B1 deficiency can affect the nervous system and the heart first. It can also affect the memory due to a problem with the mammillary bodies in the brain. Vitamin B1 is also involved in making myelin, which is the insulation around the nerve. A deficiency can cause pain in the hands and feet.  Benefits of vitamin B1: 1. It counters damage to the vascular walls that support the nervous system 2. It can help prevent necrosis 3. It can help improve the neurovascular system 4. It can help increase the survival of heart cells 5. It can help prevent cardiac fibrosis  6. It can help prevent diabetic retinopathy and neuropathy  Dr. Eric Berg DC Bio: Dr. Berg, age 57, is a chiropractor who specializes in Healthy Ketosis & Intermittent Fasting.
