Two words: Audio logs. Plus the cutscenes and briefings are quite nice too.
This video is dedicated to all the people who think Brink has a sh*t story. I challenge you to lay back and listen to this amazing voice acting, interesting plot, and realistic opinion-ed tale of epic proportions.
You can feel the turmoil in this. You can vividly imagine the things that happened and the course of events.
As you beat each stage you unlock a new audio logs which lets you learn more about the back-story as you progress but if you read it all together its just like listening to an absolutely great narrative from many points of view.
They all have they're reasons and why they believe they're right and why they do what they do. As you read each one you start to side with them untill you read the next and you start you side with them.
The feeling I had when I listened to all of these was something that I would say is on par with the feeling that I had when I played Bastion.

You may be thinking. Why didn't they just use this for the cutscenes. Well first of all its would take away from the gameplay the focus of the game. And second the way the describe and show not tell just makes your imagination see it perfectly. Brink is a game that knew exactly what it was doing and what it wanted to be to think otherwise is nearly a sin against decency. This game deserves to be put in the Hall of F*cking Fame.
