"But I sent you away, Oh Mandy, and I need youuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu...." Barry's first number one still strikes a chord with me. Through the years, he consistently added songs to the soundtrack of my life....he was always messing with the disco thing in songs like "It's A Miracle", "Copacabana" and then "Who's Been Sleeping In My Bed" an album track from his 1979 offering "One Voice". "Ships" was the big hit, but this one caught my attention, a furiously high powered disco song about somebody doing somebody wrong. Entirely too short, there never was an extended version released and after eq'ing it, this version just toppled into place. Barry continued with the dance beat in other songs like "Some Kind Of Friend" and "I'm Your Man", but never did better than "Copacabana". The rest of "One Voice" was pretty varied, the a capella surprise of the title track, "Rain", a kind of jazz pop, "A Slow Dance" started off with a disco beat copied from Sylvester and broke into a 50's shuffle kinda like Mariah Carey's "Vision Of Love"..ballads were Barry's forte, but he sure could hold his own with the dance stuff...maybe he will reconsider and do the Yoko Ono thing and create club music that sounds like today.....we will see...Barry, I'm sure you can come up with something!
