As part of a series of celebratory short videos of the stunning architecture and cityscape of Bradford, Fayakunu collaborated with Clovis to capture some immense shots of Lister Mills. Let us know what you think in the comments!
Heritage & History:
Lister Mills is a Lister's Mill was the largest silk factory in the world. It is located in the Manningham district of Bradford, West Yorkshire, England. Built by Samuel Cunliffe Lister to replace the original Manningham Mills, destroyed by a fire in 1871. During the Second World War Lister's produced 1,330 miles (2,140 km) of real parachute silk, 284 miles (457 km) of flame-proof wool, 50 miles (80 km) of khaki battledress and 4,430 miles (7,130 km) of parachute cord.
Our Mission:
2022 may be coming towards its end but here at Fayakunu, we've had an incredible journey in expanding our network and the scope of our work. Our workshop has been undergoing major renovations this year thanks to support from local organisations and businesses including LEAP & Wickes. We've been recognised by the City and major figures such as King Charles for our social impact project and our commitment to promoting cultural heritage arts.
Fayakunu welcomes and supports creative artists in order to boost social enterprise in the community. Through our urban regeneration project, we embrace cultural identity and our heritage whilst inspiring and training the next generation of artists and designers. By encouraging mental well-being through the arts, culture and pathways to vocation, Fayakunu propels artists into social enterprise. Our hybrid studio uses culture to bridge social gaps and reconnect Bradford to its diverse heritage.
