Pass away=

E.g. His mother passed away last year.

Run over =

Come down with=
Become sick

Fight off=

Come to

Here is a short, simple story using those words:

John was out for a walk one day when, sadly, he was run over by a car. He was rushed to the hospital, where he came to after passing out from the accident. The doctors said he had come down with some serious injuries, but they were confident he would be able to fight them off and eventually get over the ordeal. Unfortunately, a few days later, John's condition worsened, and he ultimately passed away from his wounds. It was a tragic situation, but his family took some solace in knowing his suffering had come to an end.
