The Japanese yen has hit its lowest level against the Korean won in nearly eight years putting pressure on the Korean economy especially in the tourism sector.
As of 3:30 PM on Thursday the exchange rate for won to yen was 9-hundred-6-point-2 won per 100 yen.
The stronger won comes amid high expectations for a recovery in the chip sector while Japan's eased monetary policy led to the weaker yen.
Amid the weakening yen, more than 89-thousand Koreans visited Japan during the first ten days of June up 34 percent compared to the first ten days in January.
However, experts voice concerns about the prolonged weaker yen as this could harm the price competitiveness of Korean companies and damage the domestic travel and service sector.
