This lesson isn't specific to any one diesel engine or software package, the principles show here will still apple to your modern common rail setup no matter what badge it is wearing.
A 5.9L Cummins diesel engine running a few upgrades which include uprated head studs, rods, injectors and a Stealth 67 turbocharger care of Calibrated Success is used in the 2007 Dodge Ram do demonstrate some of what you will do yourself when it comes to your first performance diesel tune.
In part one of this two part lesson Nick is going to run us through what the tuning process looks like with an 'instrument limited' performance build, highlighting that despite a jump from 295whp to 527whp and 980 ft/lbs of torque on the first run there is still a long way to go.
As he dives into the data it becomes apparent that along with some boost control tuning there is a factory limiter, aka lug curve, operating in the background that is limiting the power we can make along with experimenting with adding injection timing with the assumption that more timing means more power, along with a demonstration on how that is not always the case.
