Proto-Social Contract Theory in Ancient China | Philosophy of Mencius The Classical Liberal (儒家)

In this video, we will further investigate the philosophy of Mencius which stood in opposition to the Agriculturalists’ positions and explore many similar principles that Mencius shared with influential classical liberal philosophers like John Locke and Adam Smith, regarding political freedom of individuals, the right to governance in a proto-contractarian sense and the call for international peace and collaboration. We will also refute a common misconception that other indigenous people are not capable of thinking for themselves and always yearn for tyranny in a collective society.
