How I got a new
How I got a new GoPro El Grande Lifetime Warranty Replacement
I ordered my GoPro El Grande extension pole directly from @GoPro . I also ordered their GoPro Gooseneck and Clamp mounting kit. This was all back in 2018 and I'd used both only a few times under very easy conditions, nothing extreme or abusive. Years rolled past and I'd not touched either of these accessories as life steamed-rolled me into other directions. Finally, getting some time to return to my desire to record GoPro clips and photos, I broke out these mounting options and upon extending the El Grande, little bits of plastic fell to the floor and the extension tube came out completely from the handle base. I attempted to jury-rig it back into use only to find it suitable for indoor duty as a "boom" over any unboxing videos I attempted. Similarly, the gooseneck flexible shaft's securing buckle mount tab broke off cleanly upon inserting it into the clamp. My heart sank thinking what a waste of money.
Fast-forward a couple years (now these accessories are almost four years old), I find I could really use the tools these once were supposed to be and sat down to order similar items. Upon seeing the prices for these components from GoPro and 3rd-party vendors, I just couldn't escape the view of the "GoPro Lifetime Warranty" emblazoned upon both broken accessories' packaging boxes I still had under my desk. I decided I'd see if GoPro really meant it. So, one Saturday morning, I finally remembered this task as I drank my morning coffee and I signed into GoPro's website, clicked support and was looking for their email address when their support chat modal window popped up in my face asking if I needed help. I answered back and next thing. I knew I was in a long-written explanation of my story to a GoPro support representative. She was very kind and helpful. She instructed me to take a clip and photos of the accessories and upload them to a Google Drive if I had access to the service. I sent her a link to the files. I told her I'd bought them directly from GoPro and I was able to provide her the order numbers from back in 2018.
She politely excused herself saying she'd be gone while she reviewed the information. Awhile later she returned to the chat session with news...They were going to honor my replacement as a one-time courtesy! I was delighted! I honestly couldn't believe this huge company had actual live, friendly folks manning their chat service who actually cared about providing stellar customer service! I told her she was my HERO (pun intended)! Over the course of a week, I received email copies of our chat session, a couple emails from my customer service representative with shipping and verification details. Then, about a week later, I received a shipment. I opened it up and inside was a brand new El Grande extension pole and the flexible gooseneck shaft with a fresh mounting buckle! Honestly, I'm still blown away by this experience. I figured I'd paid about $60 if I remember correctly for the El Grande and likely another $50 for the gooseneck clamp (maybe it was less but still a chunk of change). It's been a long time since I've had any great customer service experience from anything that cost so much more let alone for the hassle and time GoPro took to make things right with me for these accessories.
I made an earlier video about being a GoPro fanboy and that was before this experience. Now, I'm pretty much a devoted customer to GoPro and will be sure to keep paying for their accessories and products. I hope they keep up this good come-back and ideally, keep their product quality high so replacements aren't needed in the first place.
