Meiji Emperor

Meiji the Great, the 122nd Emperor of Japan reigned from 1867 to 1912. During the Meiji emperor Japan went through the transition from the rule of the shoguns to the modern-era of Japan, known as the "Meiji Restoration". Emperor Meiji steered a careful course between adapting to modern innovations and preserving Japanese traditions and culture. Japan changed from an agrarian, feudal society to a modern industrial nation and a regional power that won a stunning victory in to the war against Russia. It was under Emperor Meiji that Japan fully emerged onto the world stage.
