Here is a simple wax-resist method for decorating your own Easter eggs. My method of using tea lights as the source of molten wax, makes this a safe project for trying at home or in the classroom! I use raw eggs and the final stage is coating the whole egg with wax and then buffing it to work it into the shell. This will preserve the egg for a long time!!

YOU WILL NEED:

• Raw white eggs (free range eggs have stronger shells)
• Onion skins – the dry outer skins of red or brown onion are best
• Dyes or inks of any colour if you prefer
• Salt – this helps the dye attach to the eggshell
• A small pot and water (for boiling the onion skins)
• Tea lights (wax candles) – this provides a safe source of melted wax
• Cotton buds
• A bowl (for soaking the eggs in the dye)
• An old cotton cloth
• Sketch pad
• Pencils
• Paper towels
• Disposable gloves
