The race to create new supply chains in support of a clean energy economy has brought industrial policy back into fashion. The Inflation Reduction Act has elicited strong interest from the international energy industry, much to the chagrin of the United States’ transatlantic allies. However, the transition to a net-zero economy will require trans-national collaboration to build resilient supply chains, exchange cutting-edge technologies, and build a net-zero ready workforce.

As Europe responds to the Inflation Reduction Act with its own Net Zero Industries Act, will efforts to onshore clean energy industries open up a transatlantic rift? Or can the two partners find ways to harmonize their cleantech policies to create open and secure net zero supply chains?
