The New National Theatre, Tokyo (NNTT) is Japan’s first and foremost national theatre for the performing arts of opera, ballet, dance and drama. Since the doors of our world-class, state-of-the-art theatre opened in 1997, we have staged an incredible array of productions, totaling more than 700.

NAKAMURA Megumi and SHUTO Yasuyuki have been highly acclaimed for their work portraying a world of light and dark on the Playhouse stage, inspired by SHAKESPEARE's THE SONNETS, including the Poet, Dark Lady, and Fair Youth, as well as the characters of Romeo and Juliet, Othello, A Midsummer Night's Dream and The Merchant of Venice. It was first performed in 2011 with revival performances at Hyogo, Fukuoka, Oita, Niigata and Tokyo. In this season, we will also feature dancers from the National Ballet of Japan.
