Power Apps: Use Patch To Update and Soft Delete Records [Power Platform Series - Ep. 14]

In the 14th episode of Matt’s Power Platform series, he revisits the Patch function from his last video. In the prior video, he shows how you can use Patch to create new records without the need for using a form in your application. In this video, he walks through how to use Patch to update a column value of a record without having to use an edit form.
There are many use cases for updating specific values on a record with a click of a button instead of navigating to an edit form. The use case in this video is to soft delete a record. By using the patch function Matt will update the active column from true to false. The record thus stays in the data set, but it now has a new value. This value Matt then uses in a filter function to only show records that have an active column value of true. The record will be hidden from the gallery thus giving the impression the record was deleted.
