On January 3rd 1981 the last of Queen Victoria’s many grandchildren passed away at the old age of 97 years and 313 days. During her long life Princess Alice witnessed many historical events; She saw the beginning and the end of the first World War which cost the lives of millions, among those dead were some of her close relatives like her first cousin Tsarina Alexandra Feodorovna. She witnessed the outbreak of the second World war and its aftermath which resulted in the cold war. During her lifespan the Countess of Athlone saw the reigns of her grandmother, Queen Victoria, her uncle, Edward VII, her cousin and brother in law, George V, her nephew Edward VIII, her other nephew, George VI and lastly her grandniece, Elizabeth II.

With a lifespan of 97 years and 313 days, Princess Alice holds the record for the oldest lived British Princess by blood. Now let’s dive into her life.
