Can Spanish Speakers Understand French, Italian or Portuguese?

while drinking sangria in Spain i thought to myself ,could I speak with the people here in the other romance languages, since they are so similar?

each language will be tackling a different common scenario, ordering coffee/breakfast, getting our photo taken and asking for directions.
