I had to rebuild the transmission on my wife's 7th gen 2003 Honda Accord V6 because it never came with a transmission fluid cooler from factory and overheated the fluid into oblivion. Ages ago, Honda installed oil jet kits to help cool the 2nd gear clutch pack but failure still happened anyway. To rectify the issue, I decided to add a cooler. I used a radiator/condenser mounting pad system and positioned the cooler so that it was in line with the primary cooling fan while being mindful of the power steering loop cooler and ensuring that the cooler received air flow from the lower bumper grille.

The cooler has been installed for about a year as of Feb 2024 and there have not been any adverse effects in mounting style or positioning. Ideally, the cooler would be air-gapped but there aren't a lot of great options available on the car without fabricating something and I am sorely lacking in tools, skill, and time to achieve a clean air-gapped install.

As I re-watched the video, it was clear that the line placement and routing were...not clear. So the routing path is as follows: Follow the hard line out of the filter housing to where it wraps around the back of the transmission until you find a soft line (not the oil jet kit over the top!) and will then remove that soft line. The outermost hard line (towards the fender) routes to the bottom of the cooler. The cooler return is then attached to the opposite side of where the soft line was removed. Add your hose clamps, zip tie or clamp the hoses out of the way, and you're all set!

Working on cars is easy for me but putting myself in front of a camera and documenting it is not. I'm still learning the behind the scenes details so please bear with me as I grow. I'm very open to constructive criticism so send anything helpful my way if you feel so inclined. And I know that I look and sound dead inside. It's probably because I am but I promise I'm working on that.
