Ethnic Armenians in Nagorno-Karabakh have
Ethnic Armenians in Nagorno-Karabakh have accused Azerbaijan of violating a ceasefire deal. Authorities said gunshots have been heard in the centre of the regional capital. Azerbaijan has denied violating the ceasefire.
It comes as a delegation from the Armenian community of Nagorno-Karabakh arrived for talks in the city of Yevlakh in Azerbaijan. The talks are taking place after Azerbaijan secured a swift military victory over ethnic Armenian separatists in Nagorno-Karabakh.
Protesters rallied in the Armenian capital, Yerevan, over the government's handling of the situation in Nagorno-Karabakh – accusing it of abandoning Armenians Nagorno-Karabakh is internationally recognized as part of Azerbaijan, even though most of its residents are ethnic Armenians.
The region has long functioned as a de facto autonomous region.
For more on this, we talk to Alissa de Carbonnel, Deputy Director for the Europe and Central Asia program at the International Crisis Group think tank in London. Before that, she was a journalist with years of experience reporting on security in Eastern Europe and the Caucasus region.
And we talk to analyst Zaur Shiriyev from the International Crisis Group.
