Hull, MD, PhD, Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine of Case Western Reserve University; Aloysius Humbert, MD, Indiana University School of Medicine Session Summary Competency-based medical education (CBME), while still responding to thoughtful criticism, has gained a foothold at all levels of medical education. In the Next Accreditation, starting July 2013, residency programs will periodically report their residents' progress along developmentalmilestones within the six ACGME/ABMS competencies. AAIM recently articulated 13 general entrustable professional activities (EPAs) for internal medicine training. At the undergraduate medical education level, some schools adopted the ACGME competencies while others articulated their own. CBME presents some unique challenges to undergraduate medical educators. How shall we calibrate specialty independent milestones for less "developed" learners? How shall we assess students' developing competencies in an environment with many more learners with less contact time with individual faculty? Can we assess EPAs for learners without an expectation for a high level of independence?
