Lowered Expectations: A comedy attempt done in the style of the 90’s comedy series “Mad TV.” Come on, ladies—Clyde needs him a gal!

This comedy attempt revealed itself to be far, far more challenging that I initially had estimated. Although the recording session was brief (maybe only a few different takes, on account of traffic) and the editing far from challenging (although balancing the laugh tracks appropriately to the individual “jokes” proved quite unscientific in its nature), creating this video was no easy task. From this effort I have learned that there exists a very expansive distinction between impromptu witticisms and planned comedy dialogue. The former offers no opportunity for doubt; while the latter offers many such moments of uncertainty. As editing continued and continued, I found myself more and more questioning if “this” was entertaining or “that” was amusing. As I could devise no such scientific method by which to assess these things, I ultimately decided simply to upload the content and let the virtual world judge it for what it is. Such an uncomfortable feeling!
Moreover, I am one keenly attuned to what does and what does not “fit.” For much of my life I have been told that the career of a detective would suit me well, as discrepancies of any kind fall immediately under my scrutiny. As is applicable here, I’m rather upset that I mistakenly substituted the word “nothing” at the end of this video for the grammatically-correct “anything”—which is not compatible with the somewhat bumpkinish condition of our fictitious hero “Clyde.” I’m sure that most people won’t notice such a minor flaw, but it will certainly irk me whenever I see it! Ugh!
