In this video Austenitic Stainless Steel is explained in detail. Austenitic Stainless Steel is nonmagnetic steel with good corrosion resistance and this steel can work at wide range of temperatures. Weldability and formability of austenitic stainless steel is excellent.  Austenitic Stainless Steel is further divided in to two series or grades of austenitic stainless steel i.e. 200 series austenitic stainless steel which is also known as chromium manganese steel and 300 series austenitic stainless steel or Nickel chromium stainless steel. Addition of nickel make these steels most expensive austenitic stainless steel. Most common type in this group is type 304 austenitic stainless steel or 18/8 austenitic stainless steel. Type 316 stainless steel gets more corrosion resistance by the addition of Molybdenum. Both of these types have a low carbon percentage variant i.e. 304L stainless steel and 316L stainless steel. In austenitic stainless steel austenitic structure is stabilized by the addition of elements known as austenite stabilizers. These elements stabilize the austenitic microstructure at room temperature and the resultants. Application of these steels include stainless steel washing machines, stainless steel food and beverage containers, stainless steel for cutlery items and automobiles.
