💬 Dr. Westien was a doctor from Döbeln. At the age of 18, he had to go to the eastern front as a medic. In the German-Soviet War 1943. Wounded in the war, he experienced the end of the war, the death of Adolf Hitler, and the occupation by the Red Army, from May 8, 1945, in his hometown Döbeln.

The unconditional surrender of the German Wehrmacht was a declaration by the Wehrmacht at the end of World War II in Europe. It contained the promise to end hostilities against the Allied forces. After unsuccessful attempts at negotiation by the German side, the surrender was signed on May 6, 1945, at the Supreme Headquarters of the Allied Expeditionary Forces in Reims on the night of May 7, 1945, and came into force on May 8. It marked the end of military hostilities between the Nazi German Reich and the Allies.
