Composite materials are widely used in aerospace – they provide the best specific mechanical properties among other structural materials such as metals or alloys.
But there are numerous issues that signinfcantly limit the applications and nullify the efficiency of composite structures. Among them are high cost, technological limitations, inspection and service issues, design complications and many others.
The biggest misconception in the existing design approaches with composite structures is what we call “metal thinking” – appying same design approaches to composite materials as if they were metals.
In this presentation, we will focus on a different approach to design with composite materials, hardware solutions for this approach, and discuss use cases in aerospace segment.
