Last Friday evening, after the stock markets closed in the USA, one of the most unexpected events of recent years took place in the technology world. Sam Altman, the founder and CEO of Open AI, which developed the most advanced examples of artificial intelligence such as ChatGPT and Dall-e, was fired. When I first heard the news, I had to check to see if it was April 1st or something. Because it was truly shocking news. But no, he was actually fired. An hour later, the other founder and chairman, Greg Brockman, also announced his resignation. These incredibly sudden and extraordinary developments created a shock effect in the Silicon Valley and all technology circles. It was a story similar to Steve Jobs being fired from Apple, which he once founded, but it happened on a much larger scale and in a much harsher way. Because in the statement, it was written that the board of directors made this decision after a deliberate review process. It concluded that fired CEO Sam Altman was not consistently candid in his communications with the board, hindering the board's ability to exercise its responsibilities. Although it has been softened with PR language, this is a very harsh statement and it literally implies that he is hiding some things and lying. It says: “The board no longer has confidence in Sam Altman's ability to continue leading OpenAI.” Speculations suddenly began to be made about the possible reasons for such a sudden decision on some platforms I follow, such as Twitter, Signal and Slack. Because such a decision, which no one really expected, was seen in a tone equivalent to a kind of backstabbing in the business world. So it's a case of "you too, Brutus". So who is Brutus, in that case you ask? I will come to that in a moment. We do not yet know how true what anyone said is, including what I will say in this video, during the recording of this video. Because even Microsoft officials, who have invested billions of dollars in Open AI, learned about the issue almost at the same time as we did.
Even technology executives from other companies, partners, investors, senior technology journalists, or anonymous company insiders cannot properly explain the reason for this. An hour after the announcement, now former CEO Altman tweeted a rather calm-looking but well-composed response to the news: “I loved my time at OpenAI. It was transformative for me personally, and hopefully the word a little bit. Most of all, I loved working with such talented people. will have more to say about what’ next later.” Immediately after this reaction, Greg Brockman also tweeted: "Based on today's news, I quit." Look, the feeling of surprise in these two people's reactions to this public opinion is perhaps the most surprising aspect for us. Because they seem to have been informed of their dismissal at the same time as the rest of the world. Hours before this incident, one of them was speaking at an event on behalf of his company, and the other was sending tweets heralding new developments. In this video, let's try to analyze who fired whom and what kind of game of thrones is going on.
