Got a 1-Series BMW where the hatchback will not open and it just sounds like a machine-gun going off? Well, this video tells you how to get the hatchback/tailgate open the easy way and how to replace the faulty lock.
At £35/$45 for a new lock this is the sensible way to fix the problem - BMW will charge around £500 for the same job. All you need is a set of screwdrivers and a Torx set and off you go!

Two ways to get the lock undone: 01:15
Get the broken catch off: 05:39
Fit the new catch: 08:10
Put the trim back on: 10:54
All done: 16:17
