What are trapezoids? We'll define trapezoids and talk about the terms we used to discuss them in today's geometry video lesson!

A trapezoid is a quadrilateral with exactly one pair of parallel sides. Though some definitions will say a trapezoid is a quadrilateral with AT LEAST one pair of parallel sides, which would mean parallelograms like squares and rectangles are special types of trapezoids. Always be aware of the definition being used by the teacher or textbook you're working with!

If we just know a shape is a trapezoid, we cannot assume any of its angles or sides are congruent, though some of them may be in special types of trapezoids. The parallel sides of a trapezoid are called the bases of the trapezoid, and angles that are adjacent to the same base are called base angles. The other two sides of the trapezoid are called the legs. The height of a trapezoid is the perpendicular distance between the bases.

I hope you find this video helpful, and be sure to ask any questions down in the comments!
