Advanced Dungeons & Dragons – The Rise of Iuz – History
Many have lived or heard the tales of The Village of Hommlet, the moathouse, and ultimately, The Temple of Elemental Evil. These events in this central region of The World of Greyhawk happened over forty years ago and came at a time of evil’s scattered and unorganized resurgence.
Adventurers today look fondly upon those early days of heroism. The stories of how a small village with factions of the ‘Old Religion’ with its druidic core and followers of St. Cuthbert was the base of operations for jaunts into the ruins left by the great battles of armies of the past. Many faced the local evil and went on to clear the extensive dungeons and elemental nodes of The Temple of Elemental Evil with its lethality still very much intact.
However, the nostalgic memories came AFTER evil’s power. Years before most arrived and dealt final blows to Zuggtmoy or even Iuz, there was horror and pestilence.
Before the Battle of Emridy Meadows, swarms of creatures worshipped and worked their wickedness as servants of the Temple of Elemental Evil and made Hommlet and the lands for leagues around a mockery of freedom and beauty. Commerce ceased; crops withered; pestilence was abroad.
This is the story of six heroes from unusual backgrounds, lives, and loyalties who came together and faced that evil at the height of its power. Their actions united the forces of Veluna, Furyondy, Celene, the Kron Hills, The Gnarley Forest, and even the reclusive people from the highest mountains of the Lortmils together changed the course of history.
