With design's influenced in part by fashion designer Victoria Beckham with the original Evoque, Land Rover certainly set the world of fashionable compact SUV's alight. With Dayglo Orange paintwork and high-gloss blackened alloy wheels, I think its safe to say that the Evoque Convertible is still setting the world of fashion and style ablaze and ultimately garnering many prying eyes. The Evoque Convertible is only available with 1 engine variant, the engine delivers 177 kW and 340 Nm of torque from its 2.0-litre turbopetrol 4-cylinders. 0 - 100 km/h is claimed by Land Rover in 7-seconds, but to be honest, in this kind of cruiser you really don't care. The drivetrain in the Evoque Convertible is incredibly similar to that found in the Ford Focus RS. Thanks to clever wizardry, the power is successfully sent to the places needed most at all times. Much like its hard-topped sibling, the Evoque Convertible features a very premium interior. Luxurious leather-wrapped surfaces adorn the cabin space, as do high door-sills and beautiful stereo system. The likes of the optional Tech pack, as fitted to my review vehicle, also features an advanced head-up display (with upcoming road turns), driver assist plus, adaptive LED headlights and adaptive cruise control. A luxurious compact SUV usually has a solid roof. With the Evoque Convertible, the engineers were forced to add additional structural rigidity beams and bars throughout the doors and other components of the chassis, in order to compensate for any rigidity lost through losing the hard roof. While it feels solid and planted on the road, the convertible element of the Evoque does make the vehicle a bit softer and quite as dynamic through the corners. It also adds extra weight and reduces the boot space when compared to that of the hard-topped version. Ultimately there are a few drawbacks of losing the top, it can, however, be outweighed by the benefits of having the top down, depends on how you look at it.
