*** Transcript:

In Matthew 6:33, Jesus says to his followers, “But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.” What is he talking? And what things will be added? The Book of Haggai helps us understand. In chapter one we learn that God’s people were released from captivity, when Persia invaded and defeated Babylon. As the small remnant returned to Jerusalem, they were instructed, and given provision to rebuild the Temple. But after starting construction and facing opposition, the work stopped. For 16 years.

But during that time, the people, went on with their lives, pursued wealth, build lavish homes, then God breaks the silence by and points out the obvious in Haggai 1:9 “My house that lies in ruins, while each of you busies himself with his own house.” You see, they weren’t seeking first the kingdom of God… they were too busy building up their own kingdom. Their priorities were all wrong. Jesus sets things straight. To seek first the kingdom of God means that our salvation, our relationship with God, is always our first priority. And anything that threatens to come in-between us and God, is not an opportunity to consider… an obstacle to avoid. To seek his righteousness means that, the decisions we make, the way we order our priorities, the value we give everything in our lives, is in agreement and in obedience to God’s ways, and his instructions.

And when we live life like that, the promise of, “and all these things will be added to you,” is God’s guarantee that He will supply all that we need. The things we truly need, in the timing we truly need them. Remember, you’re not stronger than God. You can’t provide more security than God. You can’t out give God. So put God first. Trust His word.  He will be your strength. He will provide your security, He will supply all that you need.  That’s today’s Bible Munch.
