TYPES OF SIGNAL MOLECULES IN CELL SIGNALING | MEMBRANE BOUND & SECRETORY SIGNAL MOLECULES| EXAMPLES

 Cell receives signals in the form of chemicals via signaling molecules. Signal molecules are chemically heterogeneous compounds. Structurally, the signal molecules used by plants & animals range in complexity from simple gases to proteins. Cell needs to interact with their environment & other cells around them. Prokaryotic organisms have sensors that detects nutrients & help them to navigate toward food sources. In case of multicellular organisms, growth factors, hormones, neurotransmitters and extracellular matrix components are some of many types of chemical signals cell uses. Signaling molecules are differing in their mode of action on their target cell, distance also plays a major role in their working. Some molecules carry signals over long distances, whereas other acts locally to convey information between neighboring cells.
