TBIH2024 IMAGINES | Rijksmuseum: Closer to Johannes Vermeer

Rijksmuseum's Manager of Digital Products Peter Gorgels talks to TBIH's Katey Goodwin about the Closer to Johannes Vermeer project. In 2023 it won the Webby Award in category Metaverse, Immersive & Virtual / Arts, Fashion, Retail & Culture.

Ahead of the large Vermeer exhibition 2023, the Rijksmuseum launched the digital Vermeer experience Closer to Johannes Vermeer, available for free to all Vermeer lovers around the world. Stephen Fry (English language) and Joy Delima (Dutch language guide online visitors to explore the artist’s work and personal life. Utilising the latest available technology, for the first time visitors will be able to zoom in on the tiniest pigment particles in pin-sharp detail via ultra-high resolution photographs of some Vermeer paintings.
