The 32 centimeter version of the Savage Gear Line Thru Roach is not a swimbait you throw easily with your average fishing rod. This swimbait is the slow sinking version of 32 centimeters and weighs almost half a kilo. 420 grams to be exact. The design of the swimbait is based on a scan of a real roach. This is reflected in the shape as well as the colors and pattern.

The most striking feature of this lure is the line thru system. Through the front part made of soft and hard plastic runs a titanium underline that hooks under the swimbait with a steel wire. On a take, this line is released so that the fish cannot use the weight of the bait to release itself.

Casting the swimbait is doable with a heavy rod, but don't expect to keep that up all day. For trolling, the 32-centimeter version will do just fine, even on a lighter rod. The slow sinking version runs to a depth of a meter and a half. The 445-gram version goes deeper, to a swimming depth of about 3 meters. If you want to fish the swimbait deeper, hang a weight in front of the leader. The action is maintained this way, as you can see in the footage with a loose weight of 30 grams.

The swimming action is very smooth and typical of swimbaits with a hinged design. From a speed of about 3 kilometers per hour the swimbait starts to move. With increasing speed this proceeds a little more fanatically and the resistance on the rod tip increases.

The trebles that come with the line-thru roach swimbait are a bit on the thick side, so you can replace them with a thinner one. The roach can be fished all year round. By fishing it more slowly with a short break every now and then, the action is less wild and in the colder periods you will get closer to deeper lying predator fish.
