This tutorial is about how to manage unwanted author initials in in-text citations when using reference management software, such as Endnote or Mendeley. This a common problem that turns up for many PhD or Master's thesis students, and can occur when using an author-date method of referencing, particularly APA 6th. It is related to the question of "author disambiguation" - how a citation style distinguishes between two or more first authors with similar names.
