Today marks 15 since the Iraq War began — and yet the Iraqi people are still suffering from the disastrous effects of the U.S. invasion.

Samantha Nutt is talking about the effects of the Iraq War, in light of its 15th anniversary.
The Foreign Policy expert stated, “Victory is not one of the words I use when I talk about what happened in Iraq. When I think about the many war zones I have worked in, Iraq is still the one that breaks my heart like no other. I had dear friends, ones who stayed behind and believed in the vision of the country liberated from Saddam Hussein’s brutal oppression. Bold progressive, incredible women. Aquila al Hashimi and Margaret Hassan — killed by extremist groups within a few months of President George W. Bush’s declaration of victory in Iraq.”
She went on to say, “Efforts to strengthen Iraq’s economy through large-scale investment in repairing Iraq’s shattered infrastructure are also critical. International humanitarian spending — which has amounted to less than ten percent of military spending in Iraq — that must be urgently increased to provide much-needed support to the more than 2.4 million Iraqis displaced by the violence, who are living in camps because their homes and villages no longer exist. That money is desperately needed for education, income generating programs and other forms of health and social assistance, especially for Iraq’s women and children. And pressure must be brought to bear on foreign countries who have been helping to fuel the violence in Iraq for their own perfectionist reasons, and those countries include Turkey, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and Iran.”
