You will learn how to download an individual photo or video, groups of photos or videos, photo albums, or all your photos and videos at once from Google Photos.

Additionally, you will see how and where to download your photos from Google Photos and organize them at the same time giving you the ability to upload, attach to an email, or drag the photos. You will be able to see the photos from any device, and never have to worry about losing your photos if your hard drive crashes.

Instructions:

I. To download one or a group of photos
1. Go to Google Photos and find the photo you want to download
2. Click on the checkmark in the top left corner
2a. If you want to select a few photos, just click the checkmark in the top left of the photos you want to download
2b-1. If you want to select a bunch in a row, go to the first photo and click the checkmark in the top left
2b-2. Then go to the last photo you want to download and hold down the shift key and click the checkmark in the top left.  All the photos will have blue checkmarks
3. Move your cursor to the top right and click on the three dots
4. In the dropdown menu, select download.  All the photos you want will be downloaded

II. To download all your photos at once using Google Takeout
1. Go to the address bar and type in takeout.google.com and hit enter
2. Scroll down and click the Deselect All
3. Move down to Google Photos and click the checkbox next to it on the right
4. Click on All Photo Albums Included

Note: Here you can leave everything selected to download everything, or deselect all and only select the albums or years you want

5. Click OK
6. Move to the bottom and click Next Step

Here you can choose the delivery method.  Either link via email, Drive, Dropbox, Onedrive, or Box

7. Choose the delivery method you want.  I chose link via email
8. Choose the download frequency you want.  I chose Export Once
9. Choose File Type and Size.  I chose .zip and 2MB
10. Click Create Export
11. You are now being emailed the download, so you can go to your Gmail account and click the download or click the Download button under Manage Your Exports and it will download your photos
12. Double click Show in Folder
13. Click on takeout, click on Takeout again and click on Google Photos to see your photos

Note: In addition to your photos, there will be meta files that you can ignore or delete. Also, note that if you decide to download all your photos at once and if you have a lot of them, it could take hours, or even days to complete this

III. To download your photos from Google Photos and organize them at the same time
To do this, I use Google Drive (a file management system like Dropbox) as it is a cloud based service (like Google Photos), so you won't lose your photos if your hard drive crashes, but more importantly, you are able to upload, attach, or drag your photos in Google Drive whereas you are not able to do that in Google Photos

1.  Install Google Drive if you don't have it already.  Google Google Drive and install
2. Create a Google Photos folder and create subfolders for every year you have pictures in Google Photos
3. Create 12 subfolder in each yearly folder and name them 01 to 12 for each month of the year
4. Go to Google Photos and to the first month of the first year you want to download and click on the checkmark in the top left of the first photo of the month and go to the last photo of that month and hold down the shift key and click the checkmark in that photo.  All your photos from that month will be highlighted.
6. Go to the 3 dots on the top right and click on them and go to Download.  All those photos will be downloaded.
7. Click on Show in Folder to go to your downloads folder.
8. Click on the first photo, then scroll down and hold the shift key and click on the last photo.  All your photos will be selected
9. If you are using a Chromebook, you should be able to click on the photos and move them to the folder you want in Google Drive.  If you are using a Mac or Windows, you should be able to copy those photos and go to Google Drive to the folder you want them in and paste them in there.

This organizes your photos cleanly by year, then month and allows you to do things with your photos that Google Photos doesn't.

I hope this has been helpful.  Give me a thumbs up if you liked this video and written explanation and subscribe to my channel and click the bell to be notified when I publish new videos.  Thank you! Dan
