From English to Kolsch dialect:
Kölsch is a dialect spoken in and around the city of Cologne (Germany). It is mainly spoken in the North Rhine-Westphalia region, where Cologne is located. Kölsch is not only a dialect, but also a local beer style that shares its name with the dialect.” Kölsch shows similarities with the dialects spoken in the Netherlands, mainly in Kerkrade, Bocholtz, Simpelveld, Lemiers and Vaals.

Kölsch belongs to the West-Central German dialect group and is closely related to Ripuarian spoken in the wider Rhineland. It has its roots in Middle Low German and has evolved over the centuries. The Kolsch dialect is known for its unique pronunciation, vocabulary and grammar. It differs significantly from standard German and can sometimes be difficult to understand for non-native speakers. Special features of Kölsch include the pronunciation of "ch" as "sch" and the vowel shift from "e" to "i" in certain words. Kölsch is spoken by the people of Cologne as part of their cultural identity.

It is often used in informal settings, among friends and family, and at local events and celebrations. Although Standard German is the main language used for formal communication, many Cologne residents are proud of their dialect and enjoy speaking Kolsch to connect with their local heritage. The dialect also plays an important role in the local arts and entertainment scene. Kölsch is used in traditional songs, theater performances and comedy shows, known as "Fastelovend" or "Carnaval" in the local dialect. These events are especially popular during the annual carnival season in Cologne, where parades, costumes and Kölsch are celebrated.

It is worth noting that while Kölsch is a vibrant and valued part of Cologne's heritage, it is poorly understood or spoken outside the region. Visitors to Cologne may encounter some Cologne expressions or expressions, especially in more traditional areas or local establishments, but Standard German is the most commonly used language of communication in the city.
