Some of this stuff I have covered in my beta colossus blog post (see link below). Note: I update my blog with new material as soon as I get it, or when I come up with more speculations etc.

Most of the info about the beta colossi comes from the official art book and from a now deleted 'Team Ico Gamers' blog post which featured a French article of an interview with Ueda about the beta colossi. Luckily AndrewFM managed to transcribe some of it before it was lost forever! I have searched for this article but have come up empty...
