Dear UNESCO,

The Afghan Folk asks UNESCO to include the Rebab/Rabab/Rubab in its
form and construction as a purely Afghan traditional instrument in order to
do justice to this people and their musical rights and heritage.

Afghanistan is a country rich in art and cultural heritage.
As I am sure you are aware, the country of Afghanistan has experienced several conflicts in recent years and there is still no secure future in sight.
Unfortunately, during the period of conflict, there has been no responsibility, including financial responsibility, to consolidate our culture and heritage.

I myself was born in Herat, Afghanistan into a family of musicians, where my uncle Ustad G.M. Attaie was a great master on the Afghan Rubab. I had the honour of learning music, especially the Afghan Rubab, in a classical way from Ustad Attaie himself for the first few years. I also learnt the Rubab from Ustad Attaie's Son, Ustad Nesar Ahmad Attaie.
Nowadays, in my role as an Afghan Rubab player, I feel more and more responsible to take care of our heritage, especially the Afghan Rubab, and to register it with UNESCO as a heritage and traditional musical instrument of the Afghan people.
For these reasons, I am trying to collect the sources and references of this heritage with the means available to me today and make them available to the UNESCO organization.

The Afghan Rubab is unique in form and sound and is the traditional Afghan musical instrument that has gained interest and popularity in recent years due to the emigration of Afghan musicians to neighbouring countries, as far as Europe and America, and also in this day and age of social media.

I am still willing to give a presentation on the history and development of the Afghan Rubab for UNESCO if needed to clarify this.

Yours faithfully.
M. Human Attaie.
