The 8th -- 12th of October this year is National Marine Week with the theme: "Southern Oceans: it's the small things that count." The purpose of this week is to raise awareness and mobilise action around marine and coastal conservation. The
Endangered Wildlife Trust's Source to Sea Programme is working to conserve aquatic ecosystems from the headwaters of rivers to their confluence with the ocean and beyond. Through Biodiversity Stewardship, integrated catchment and coastal management, strengthening of compliance and enforcement, education and awareness-raising and the development of alternative livelihoods via the "green economy", we are implementing conservation-in-ACTION projects on the ground, in priority freshwater, marine and coastal ecosystems. We are currently working in the Bazaruto Archipelago to protect the rare and endangered marine mammal, the Dugong and its seagrass habitat. We are also one of the Gauteng implementers for the WWF-South African Sustainable Seafood Initiative (SASSI), where we are working with the seafood industry and consumers to guide more sustainable choices and best fishing practices.  Visit www.ewt.org.za to find out more and join us at http://www.givengain.com/cause/2347/p... to become an activist for the Dugongs
