See an overview of my JL Audio 8W6 subwoofers. I picked up a trio of these subs recently, all needing new surrounds. For some reason, JL used foam surrounds instead of butyl rubber and these surrounds are good for about 10 years if you are lucky. The 1st gen W6 subwoofers came out in the early 90's and were available until the late 90's from JL dealers.

These 8W6 subs have dual 6 ohm voice coils, and work perfect in a trio as they can be wired in series/parallel config for a resulting load of 4 ohms. This 4 ohm load is the lowest bridged load many old school amps wanted.

I mentioned sealed and ported box specs in the video, but was a little off in the sealed. I said 0.325 and should've said 0.375. These subs can handle 200 watts continuous and have an x-max of 9.9mm. Not that impressive when compared to the Image Dynamics ID8 or Alpine Type R 8" subs available today. That said, we are Old School fans, so let's celebrate the awesome gear from years past!

Be sure to follow OldSchoolStereo on twitter, I'll tweet whenever I put out a new video.
