NASA and the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency, using the XRISM (X-ray Imaging and Spectroscopy Mission) observatory, have captured an unprecedented view of an exploded star, supernova remnant N132D, located 160,000 light-years away. This remnant, from a star 15 times larger than our sun, is scattering essential elements like iron, calcium, and sulfur into space. XRISM's spectrometer technology is key to identifying the composition of these distant cosmic objects, enhancing our understanding of stellar explosions and the universe's chemical makeup.
