From their inception to the present day, this video has you covered. The Reserve Bank has the sole authority to issue banknotes in India. Reserve Bank, like other central banks the world over, changes the design of banknotes from time to time. The Reserve Bank has introduced banknotes in the Mahatma Gandhi Series since 1996 and has so far issued notes in the denominations of Rs.5, Rs.10, Rs.20, Rs.50, Rs.100, Rs.500 and Rs.1000 in this series. India has four currency note printing presses. The central government controls two of them - at Nashik in Maharashtra and Dewas in Madhya Pradesh while an RBI subsidiary, the Bharatiya Reserve Bank Note Mudran (P) Ltd controls the other two - at Mysuru in Karnataka and Salboni in West Bengal. The paper on which currency is printed is designed, produced and supplied to printing presses by two mills - at Hoshangabad in Madhya Pradesh and Mysuru, Karnataka. Hoshangabad mill is under government control while Mysuru mill is run by the RBI. Gingerline Media
