The updated Motivational Pathway clarifies core human needs and elements of well-being, self actualization and 'positive psychology'. The Motivational Pathway shows how Self Determination Theory (SDT) links to guiding principles. The key steps are particularly relevant for Executive Coaching. Ditch Maslow Hierarchy of Needs !
Whilst "hygiene factors" (e.g. work conditions, pay, job security) may contribute to dissatisfaction, they are not the source of motivation and high performance at work. Much better to view them as things you 'pass on the way' when approaching the new pyramid! The expanded 'Maslow Motivation Model' takes account of recent research. Maslow's (1943) model doesn't predict behaviour.
