In this episode we depart Muscat with our rented Toyota Fortuner (hired via bit.ly/OmanCarHire), our camping gear (check out the full list here www.goingthewholehogg.com/backpacking-camping-gear…, and some extra camping equipment we bought at the supermarket. On day 1 our first stop is the viewpoint over Bandar Al Khiran, then we carry on to look for a wild camp spot at the southern side of As Sifah Beach before it gets dark. On day 2 we drive up Wadi Tiwi then hike down to the beautiful wadi pools and waterfall below Mibam village, guided by a local boy (learn from our mistake and agree a price beforehand if you go with a local!). You need around 3 - 4 hours to drive up the wadi, hike to the pools, go for a swim, and drive back down the wadi. We camp on the coast near Fins Beach. On day 3 we visit Wadi Shab. The boat runs from 8am to 5.30pm and costs 1 OMR per person return. It takes about 45 minutes to hike to the wadi pools. You can swim to a hidden cave with a small waterfall. Avoid Friday/Saturday and holidays if possible as it gets busy here! Next, we head off-road to the Salmah Plateau and camp next to some 5000 year old Beehive tombs. On day 4 we off-road through the Eastern Hajar Mountains and wild camp above Qalhat, before descending to the coast on day 5 and camping near Ras Al Jinz. From here we return to Muscat on day 6 to buy a new microphone after the audio jack on our camera breaks : / We stay in a budget hotel (bit.ly/MuscatHillsHotel) and have an Omani meal at Rozna.
