Jim Brauker teaches a tutorial workshop on how to safely cut trees for deer habitat at the QDMA National Convention. In order to safely hinge cut a tree, it is first important to know how to fell a tree conventionally using a face cut and back cut.  Hinge cutting should be done using the same approach, with the only difference being that a face cut is not done when hinge cutting. In this workshop, Jim and Jake Ehlinger showed how to create deer beds, including both buck beds and doe bedding areas, how to create hinge cut barriers, and how to create hinge cut transition zones, also knows as deer funnels.  In July 2013 I presented a workshop at the National Convention of the Quality Deer management Association. They demonstrated how to properly and safely use a chainsaw and a Silky Zubat hand saw to cut trees for deer habitat at the proper height, and without the tree breaking off or causing a barber chair. They will be returning to the QDMA convention again this year and will be building an entire bedding area, transition zone, and stand set up between bedding and food. WWW.extremedeerhabitat.COM
