Historically, Black Americans have moved to northern states in a trend known as the Great Migration. From the 1910s to the 1970s, for instance, six million Black people relocated from the South to the North, Midwest, and West. The First Great Migration occurred between 1910 and 1940, when Black southerners moved to cities like New York, Chicago, Pittsburgh, and Detroit. The Second Great Migration began from World War II onwards and, in addition to the North, saw about 3 million Black Americans relocating throughout the US. Today, though, migration trends have shifted – and many Black Americans are leaving the cities they once moved to, with many moving to the south.

Today on Across the Globe we’re going to look at the Cities Black Americans are Leaving.
