Folks I feel like sand sometimes gets a bad rap in the hobby as a planted tank substrate, and I feel like there are some misconceptions out there about sand.  I don't want these misconceptions to discourage anyone from using sand if they like the look and want to give it a try, so I decided to put together a little video series on the topic.

I use different substrates in tanks and sand is certainly one of them.
I personally like using sand as a planted tank substrate, and I've had a lot of success using pool filter sand in a few tanks.  Sand also provides a more natural environment for our fish as many of their native habitats have sandy substrates.

You will need to use root tabs and fertilizer, but even with other aquarium substrates, you'll have to eventually use root tabs and you will always need to keep fertilizing.

I hope this video series is helpful and provides a little encouragement to those who want to give sand a try but have been hesitant to dive in.

Keep tankin!
