Privatization of ports has become a system gaining popularity around the world. Many African countries are adopting this strategy, allowing private companies to operate their ports - wholly or partly - with the hope of boosting their economies.

Ports are a crucial part of international trade. They often serve as the main hubs for connecting various nations while also providing services for the transportation of goods and raw materials. Without ports, a significant portion of the world's economy would come to a standstill.

Despite many African countries having port infrastructure, the operation and efficiency of these ports have been problematic. This is often due to a lack of modern equipment, despite the geographical advantages. Countries such as Kenya and Tanzania are among those struggling to manage their ports.

As a continent, Africa is also blessed with abundant natural resources. Port privatisation has become a significant incentive for countries and corporations with the necessary resources and extensive experience in port operations.

How are African countries faring in the privatisation drive? What is their potential?
