#thankamani movie review തങ്കമണി മൂവി റിവ്യൂ #malayalam Thankamani" is heavily inspired by a real-life incident that shook Kerala in 1986, where bloodshed and brutality spewed over the hilly village of the same name. Despite being a fictional and/or inspired portrayal, one can't escape thinking about the actual torture the actual victims had to go through back then.
Dileep is the biggest positive in the film. As both the young chap falsely framed and agonised AND the aged but fiery elderly man seeking revenge, the veteran is convincing and pulls off stunt sequences and emotional moments elegantly. It is after long that we get to see Dileep the performer plus Dileep the action star back with a bang - arguably after Kamara Sambhavam (2018). South Indian sensation Pranitha is effortless in the cop outfit but her lip sync is a letdown as the actress struggles with Malayalam. Neeta Pillai looks out of place when portraying a village woman with no sense of the world outside her hometown. Rest of the actors have their tailor-made parts written sloppily but not ridiculously. Siddique sleepwalks in a cameo where he gives just the right amount of emotions like he always does. The second half is engaging and stylish compared to the generic-looking maiden half. The art direction team is careful in presenting both the timelines appropriately. The action choreography was neat and attractive.
The major negatives start with the colour grading which should have been toned down. The picturesqueness distracts the viewer from the otherwise appalling cinematography. The music and scoring, despite entertaining in parts, sounded dull - it would have been a real blessing for 'Thankamani' if someone like Sushin Shyam or Justin Varghese composed the OST. The melodrama in the writing too was simply too much, especially in the first half.
In short, Dileep's 'Thankamani' ends up being enough to satisfy the actor's fans.
